When to use it
Reach for a tier list over Player Ratings when you are arguing about relative standing rather than marking one performance — "where does he sit generally" instead of "how did he go on Saturday." It is also the format for anything that is not eleven-a-side: coaches, jumpers, grounds, pre-season predictions, anything you can paste as a list of names.
A good tier list uses all five rows. Everything crammed into B and C reads as indecision, not nuance — the whole point of S and D existing is that someone gets called the best and someone gets called the worst, on camera, in your handwriting. Twelve to twenty items is the sweet spot: enough to argue about, not so many that individual cards shrink to nothing by the time they land in a full row. Share the finished deck link if you want the argument to keep going — whoever gets it can fork your board and rearrange it into their own tier list rather than starting from a blank one.
